What does Tlapazola mean? Tlapazola is a small village located south the capital city of Oaxaca. It is said the village got it's name from the phrase "tapa sol" (covers the sun). Although the village is named after its' saint San Marcos, to many it was known as the village that hides the sun because of it's surrounding mountains hence the name San Marcos Tlapazola.
